Historic New Carlisle, Inc. purchased the Old Republic in 1998 and embarked on a $1.4 million restoration. The second floor bedrooms of the home were rehabbed creating The Inn at the Old Republic which opened in 2005.
The Old Republic was built as a private home for the Service Family in 1860-61. The house suffered from years of neglect from the mid-1960s until 1998 when Historic New Carlisle, Inc. purchased the home. The first floor is available to rent for special events and the original summer kitchen houses Historic New Carlisle's office and local history museum. The Inn at the Old Republic features four beautifully decorated bedrooms on the second floor. There are three queen-size bedrooms and one bedroom with two twin beds. Each room has a half-bath. A shared bathroom with claw-foot tub and shower are located down the hallway. A continental breakfast is served.
